One Year Ago Today!!!
January 30, 2009
Today is the one year anniversary of us bringing our perfect angel home from Guatemala (AKA- Gotcha Day). We can't believe how fast this past year has flown by! It has taught us an important lesson: We have to cherish every moment of her baby/toddler days because "they" really do grow fast! It has been such a blessing and pleasure to see her grow and learn different things. She is now really talking quite a bit (even though some of the words she says are made up and we can't understand them). She knows how to say some Spanish words but understands a whole lot in Spanish! She can point to her 'cabeza, ojos, orejas, nariz, boca, brazos, manos, dedos, estomago, piernas & pies'. When I give her a bath, I name the parts that I'm washing in Spanish so she has picked up on those words. She also says, 'agua' and 'mas'.
It is amazing how observant she is and is able to mimick us and/or pick up so many of the things that we do. She is extremely smart! I know I'm biased but she really is!! She has gone "poopoo" in her potty, she wipes her mouth and hands after she eats, she throws away her trash without being told and can even blow her own nose!
Every day we just stare at her and are just so thrilled that she is a part of our lives. I never imagined that I could ever love a child as much as I love her.

Cristina's First Christmas Party
Tuesday, December 23, 2008
We took a mini vacation down to Parkville, Missouri for a friend's Christmas party the weekend of December 5th. We stayed at a bed & breakfast for the weekend in Parkville. Our friend David goes all out for this annual event. His whole house is decorated from head-to-toe. Cristina had a blast and stayed up extremely late!

Phil bought me a dozen roses about a month ago. They were this gorgeous pink color. He ordered them from ProFlowers.com, I think in California. They are shipped directly from the growers and are extremely fresh. They arrive in buds and bloom within a day or two. Cristina learned how to appreciate and smell the roses.

Adoption Finalized!!!
On November 12 our adoption was finalized here in Nebraska. It was a such a wonderful day. Both sets of grandparents were there for this long-awaited event. The judge went over all of our paperwork (as a formality) and told us that as soon as he signed the adoption decree Cristina Elizabeth McDermott would be considered our natural born child. Since we were not able to have children of our own, those words meant alot to us! I began to cry when he said that.
Our Little Angel!! (Literally)
Halloween
I took Cristina trick-or-treating at the mall a week ago. I thought this would be a great way to introduce her to our Halloween custom and break her into her costume. She really caught on and soon became a pro at "asking" for candy. Since she doesn't talk yet, she "had" to sign 'Please' and 'Thank You' at every store she received candy.
Halloween night we took her over to Grandma and Grandpa Correa's house so they could see her costume. We kept it a surprise but told them that they wouldn't be surprised when they saw her (and they weren't because she's an angel ALL THE TIME).We also stopped over at Aunt Connie and Uncle Joe's house. Later, we went out around our neighborhood. Her Godfather, Matt, his wife, Dorie and their four kids joined us. Cristina had a blast with Natalie and Naomi.
After they left, we went to a nice bar and grill to get a bite to eat and "show off" our costumes. We didn't plan on going out but when my dad saw us he said that we should because the three of us were a perfect trio.
Phil and I hadn't planned on dressing up in costume until Friday afternoon. I was talking to a friend and she asked if we were dressing up and I told her that we had devil costumes then all of a sudden this light bulb clicked on and I realized DUH!!! how perfect would that be for Phil and me to be devils and Cristina to be an angel!!?? So...I just had to convince Phil that it was a great idea. He wasn't too thrilled about it at first but then when we received so many comments from other people, he thanked me and told me what a great idea it was.

At the Pumpkin Patch
October 25, 2008
I have ALWAYS loved the Pumpkin Patch so we decided to take Cristina to one of the smaller local pumpkin patches. We had never been to this particular one but we chose it because it wasn't huge like the one I've been to many times. This smaller one was great for introducing Cristina to this annual event (hopefully). We were able to pet baby chicks, go through a corn maze, ride tricycles, go on a hayrack ride and pick a few pumpkins. We lucked out with the beautiful weather!!
